About Business Opening Muhurat

A business muhurat times the opening of a shop, office or new venture so that trade begins under the stars of profit. Mercury's Wednesday and Jupiter's Thursday lead the weekdays, Pushya — the wealth star — leads the nakshatras (Guru Pushya on a Thursday is the supreme opening day), and within the day the tradition asks for a good Choghadiya, above all Labh, the 'profit' slot. Panchak is avoided for new ventures, and openings pause through Kharmas and Adhik Maas.

How Business Opening Muhurat dates are chosen

  • Thirteen nakshatras qualify — the swift, gentle, movable and fixed ganas from Ashwini through Shravana, plus Dhanishta's Panchak-free first half — with Pushya, the wealth star, the strongest; Guru Pushya (Pushya on a Thursday) is the supreme opening day.
  • Every tithi except the Rikta set qualifies: the classical benefics (2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 13th) rank 'most auspicious', while Pratipada, Shashthi, Ashtami and Dwadashi appear as 'suitable'.
  • Wednesday (Mercury, the lord of trade) and Thursday (Jupiter, the lord of wealth) lead, with Monday and Friday alongside; Sunday and Saturday qualify as weak-but-permitted 'suitable' days. Only Tuesday is barred.
  • Panchak — from the Moon's entry into Kumbha mid-Dhanishta through Revati — is carved out of every window, following the applied convention for new ventures (the classical Panchak verses name travel and house-work; the bar on openings is the calendars' cautious extension). Shatabhisha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati sit wholly inside it and never qualify. Openings also pause through Kharmas and Adhik Maas. (Chaturmas is an advisory caution in the tradition, not a bar — its dates are listed.)
  • Each day's timing is narrowed to the good Choghadiyas — with Labh, the Mercury-ruled 'profit' slot, the signature window for commerce. Choghadiya is the popular almanac convention; the classical texts time trade by Mercury's strength in the lagna.
  • Six parva (festival) days enter on the festival's own authority, whatever the regular gates say: Diwali's Lakshmi–Chopda Pujan — prescribed by the Dharmasindhu on Kartika Amavasya itself, at pradosh — with Bali Pratipada and Labh Pancham, the merchant new-year days, and the sade-teen muhurat days Gudi Padwa, Akshaya Tritiya and Vijayadashami.

Which day is best to open a shop or business?
Wednesday and Thursday lead — Mercury rules trade and Jupiter rules wealth — with Monday and Friday alongside. The supreme opening day is Guru Pushya: Pushya nakshatra falling on a Thursday.
What is the Labh Choghadiya and why does it matter?
Choghadiya divides the day into eight roughly 90-minute slots; Labh — 'profit', ruled by Mercury — is the signature slot for commerce. Every window listed here is already narrowed to the favourable slots (Amrit, Shubh, Labh, Chal), so the opening hour can be read straight off the card.
Why are there no dates during Panchak?
Starting a new venture is among the works Panchak bars — tradition associates it with losses. Panchak runs while the Moon is in Kumbha and Meena, from mid-Dhanishta through Revati, and those spans are carved out of every window here — the Panchaka-rahita method.
Does Chaturmas stop a business opening?

Diwali falls on Amavasya — why is it listed when Amavasya is excluded?

The Amavasya bar belongs to the electional rules for ordinary days; a festival-fixed rite is sanctioned by its own tithi. The day carries a Diwali badge and its windows include the pradosh kaal — the same applies to Bali Pratipada and Labh Pancham, the merchant new-year days.
How are these muhurat dates calculated?
Each day is scored against the five limbs of its Drik panchang — tithi, vara (weekday), nakshatra, yoga and karana — following the classical muhurta tradition — the Muhurta Chintamani, the Kalaprakasika and B.V. Raman's Muhurtha. Days carrying a dosha (Amavasya, the Rikta tithis, Bhadra or Panchak) are then removed, leaving only the auspicious dates for New Delhi.
Are the timings valid for my city?
The dates are anchored to New Delhi (IST). The auspicious day is usually the same across India, but the sunrise-based windows — and intervals like Rahu Kaal and Abhijit — shift a little by location, so check the full panchang for your own city before fixing a time.
Why do some months have no dates?
The strict rules drop the inauspicious tithis and nakshatras, and the seasonal pauses — Kharmas (Malmaas), Chaturmas and Adhik Maas — halt major beginnings entirely. A month sitting inside one of those windows can legitimately show few or no dates.
What is the Abhijit Muhurta?
