How Gold Buying Muhurat dates are chosen

• ✓ The classical sixteen-member purchase set qualifies — the swift, gentle, movable and fixed ganas from Ashwini through Revati — with Pushya, the nakshatra of Lakshmi, the most prized of all. Pushya on a Thursday (Guru Pushya) or Sunday (Ravi Pushya) is the tradition's celebrated buying day.
• ✓ The favoured tithis — 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th and 11th — rank 'most auspicious'; the other benign tithis, including Trayodashi — the tithi of Dhanteras itself — qualify as 'suitable'. The Rikta tithis (4th, 9th, 14th) and Amavasya are excluded as everywhere.
• ✓ Thursday (Jupiter, the lord of gold and wealth) is the best weekday; Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday are good. Saturday is firmly barred — gold is never bought on Shani's day — and Tuesday is avoided as for any purchase.
• ✓ Panchak does not bar jewellery — buying ornaments during it is held auspicious — so the band's benefic stars stay in; and no seasonal blackout applies (gold is a purchase, not a saMskara), so dates appear in every month.
